Sport

Marlston House girls have the opportunity to play a wide variety of sports to a high standard and the school has an excellent reputation for being competitive and sporting. The programme is organised by the Head of Girls Games assisted by several qualified coaches. The major sports are rounders and athletics and tennis in the summer term and netball and hockey in the winter terms. Marlston House is proud of its sporting record at regional and national level.

The sports programme gives girls opportunities to become proficient in the following:

Swimming
This takes place in our indoor heated pool

Golf
Chip and putt course

Indoor sports
These take place in a large multi-purpose sports hall and include tennis, short tennis, badminton, indoor cricket nets, five-a-side football, basketball, gymnastics, judo and fencing.

Riding

Riding is a special feature of Marlston House and the school has its own facilities, ponies and coaches.  Girls may keep their own ponies at school or use one of the school's for lessons. The school runs its own shows as well as competing with great success locally and at inter-school competitions. Riding tuition includes fun hacks around the school's farm and extensive network of bridleways as well as the opportunity for more experienced riders to enjoy riding on Exmoor at the school's Field Studies Centre.

Extra-curricular activities

Expeditions and field trips to places of interest occur throughout the year.

Adventure training takes place in the Brecon Beacons under qualified instruction and includes rock climbing, caving, canoeing and hill walking. Camping takes place in the summer. In addition, the school organises a popular skiing trip during the Easter holidays.

Hobbies of all kinds are actively encouraged so that girls may make creative use of their spare time. Among the most popular are natural history, desk top publishing, golf, dance, cooking and table-tennis but there are many others. An area of the grounds is set aside for the girls' gardens.
